In July of 2024 I received the news that all real estate investors and landlords dread. One of my rental properties had caught fire.
I thank God that the tenants escaped unharmed. Unfortunately, the single-family home was not inhabitable, and they had to vacate the home. This left me both without a renter and with a property that was worth far less than my investment in it.
The cause of the fire was never conclusively proven by either the fire department or the insurance company’s investigator but was known to have originated near the natural gas and electric service entries. There was no hope of holding anyone accountable for the mess that I suddenly had, and I was now reliant on my insurer to help me.
I soon learned that insurance companies are not in the business of lending a helping hand, regardless of what their flashy commercials might say.
Initially, the damage seemed confined to one end of the house due to a swift response from the local fire department. However, as I began to inspect the home myself, it soon became clear to me that damage from the smoke, firefighter response, and the actual fire was both extensive and challenging to document on my own.
My insurer engaged a third-party adjuster who woefully underestimated the damages. I suggested that obviously overlooked damages be included in the adjustment, but I was totally ignored.
The insurance company cut me a check that wouldn’t have covered the demolition and remediation and certainly not the repairs. My impression was that they were trying to frustrate me into just giving up.
Within a week of the incident, I was at a point of reckoning. I had repeatedly lay in bed a night, wide awake and reviewing my options:
1. Should I give up and sell the home at a loss?
2. Should I try to restore the property and just hope that, as costs exceeded that tiny settlement check, my insurer would pony up and meet their obligations under the policy?
3. Should I take on my insurer and fight for what I was due under the terms of my policy?
(This option seemed the scariest because I knew that I did not have the experience, ability, or time to take it on.)
I had a couple more sleepless nights before I made my decision. I would not be steamrolled – even by a goliath like my insurance company.
Early one morning, after researching several independent adjusters, I reached out to Abba Claims Consultants, LLC. Within the morning, I received a call back from Ches Bostic (the CEO) to discuss my situation. We reviewed the steps of their claim process, costs, and initial timelines. He was professional, forward, and detailed, but also very personable.
I soon decided to hire Abba. Over the next couple of months, their team was able to professionally quantify the damage, prepare a detailed estimate, and then submit a demand for a proper settlement from my insurance company.
Their promptness in communicating with me at each step of the way, professionalism in documenting and preparing the final adjuster’s report, and strength in knowledge of the process through obvious experience made all the difference in what came next….
My insurer paid out almost the entire policy!
The insurance company quickly came to realize that I was now educated, armed with a great team at Abba, and willing to fight for what I was contractually due under my policy.
I am glad to say that I was financially made whole and have been able to move on from this episode. From the moment I engaged Abba to when I received the final settlement check was a few months, and well worth the time and cost.

We do recommend ABBA Claims as they performed as it was presented. We were initially stalled dealing with our insurance company dealing with hail damage to our roof. I do recommend Abba Claims to if you believe you need serious help with your insurance claims, they were clear, knowledgeable and upfront from the beginning and they performed as expected. Before reaching out for them we were dealing with an insurance claim for storm damage in our home that stalled for many months, at the end we are very satisfied with the outcome, which we are sure it would not happen that way if not because of Abba Claims involvement in my claim.

I retained Abba after our vacation house took a hit from hurricane Harvey in Rockport Texas. ABBA’s contract stated they were due % of claim past and future. They were worthless and actually even worked against me siding with the insurance company on a matter that I successfully argued in my favor after I fired them. I paid per my contract but I should have taken them to court and kept the money. Not a great experience and I write this now because they just solicited my review.
12/16/2022 I don't see opportunity in this review to reply to Abba's response so I'll do it here. Our neighborhood took a direct hit from Hurricane Harvey, I have photos of the eye of the hurricane right over our little canal community. At least nine homes were complete scrape offs, it was a CAT 4 hurricane (max 156mph), nearly a CAT 5. We also know there were embedded tornadoes. I know of no one that has a house worthy of rebuilding that didn't get a new roof as part of the put-back. Chez did not go on the roof, he sent a third party to look at it and that party never filed a report, or we did not get a report from him or Abba. I did however manage to talk to him by phone and he supported the facts of the damage. I challenge Abba to produce a report that says otherwise. We had consultants and roofers look at it on our behalf after Abba was fired, and I personally was able to get money for the roof replacement and much more. It took hard work, something that Abba was not willing to do. I consulted an attorney (200 miles from Rockport) and he was well aware of Abba and in fact was aware of other legal claims against Abba. I would suggest that anyone looking into use of Abba do more than look at Google reviews, have an attorney look at open records of grievances against Abba and see what comes up. I stated that I upheld my part of the contract by paying Abba but they really didn't earn a penny of it. In fact if they were as honest as they claim they should have refused payment - but they didn't.

I hope to goodness no one ever is the situation we were, but if so, do yourself a favor & get your life & home back & call Abba. Our insurance company was terrible to our family, inhumane really, & dragged the claim process out for almost a year. We finally found out about Abba & our only regret was not calling earlier. Ches is a "good ol' boy", a straight shooter, & he simply does not play or take any nonsense from anyone. He leaves absolutely no room for that! He knows all their tricks & procedures & shuts it down to only move forward on a new path to recover your home. The adjuster from our (now former) insurance company inadvertently copied me on an email thread between he & Ches, & Ches was firm, assertive, extremely knowledgeable, and demanding of our rights, all while remaining completely professional. Autumn is a machine also, & always communicated & processed paperwork quickly & efficiently. End result: Abba got us far more than the insurance company's offering, in fact, the insurance company should be embarrassed by what they tried to settle with us for & how they repeatedly treated us. I wasted many months, worried, anxious, & sick over our claim & how it was handled. That could have been prevented if I had just called Abba earlier. They are heroes & redeemed all that stress & got our family far more than we ever expected & certainly far more than the insurance company told us we deserved! Let Abba be your army, they will win!! They forever have a special place in our hearts & our prayers!

I cannot speak highly enough of this company. Not only in terms of their professionalism and getting the job done, but they genuinely care about you as a client. They got me a settlement twice what we were expecting for a burst kitchen pipe. Jenny Calliham and David have been absolutely amazing! Not only was my initial claim settled quickly and efficiently, but they are still working with me as the repairs are being completed to ensure any adjustments in cost increases etc are met by the insurance.
