A reader’s paradise / dream come true. Beautiful architecture, amazing design, extensive collection of books and such thoughtful furniture. Absolutely loved it. One can easily spend a day here. The 6th floor roof garden is gorgeous with amazing views of the lake and buildings. Open and spread out seating. The inside staircase of the library is gorgeous! One would be in awe of the well thought out design. Kids section is super cute with some games, large size chess board, arts / crafts area, computers with games and an outdoor reading porch area. Bummer that the coffee shop was closed. Gift shop was nice but very overly priced. There was a lot of staff on each floor to assist / answer questions. They also had a movie playing with headsets on the entrance of the library.
PARKING : There is a parking garage attached to the Library on West St.

I’ve lived in Austin for 2+ years and just now discovered the Austin Public Library — what a gem! The library is stunning, with a vibrant atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff. They have a wide selection of books for all ages. It’s also such a peaceful place to work or relax. I’m looking forward to coming back with my son to explore even more!

My new workplace is in Austin but it doesn’t count as your residence to get a library card that’s why it’s a three for me. Best public library I’ve seen so far in Texas. Homeless people are able to access the premises for computer needs etc. impressed with how people are in order and the way the floors were divided. Liked the rooftop concept with solar panel ceiling. Teen room was cool. Quiet rooms were quiet! All I asked for in a library plus 3D printers were accessible! Great amount of plugs for your devices. Affordable parking.

The Austin Central Library is a vibrant and inviting space for readers of all ages. The contemporary design and well-organized sections create a welcoming atmosphere. The library features a large chessboard on the third floor, along with smaller birds scattered throughout the building, making it a heaven for chess enthusiasts.

One of the standout features is the dedicated board game section, allowing visitors to enjoy a variety of games on site. Additionally, the library offers modern meeting rooms available for free booking. For those seeking outdoor reading experiences, the rooftop garden provides a serene escape.

Overall, the Austin Central Library is a valuable resource for the community, offering a diverse range of books, amenities, and spaces to explore.

FANTASTIC library, lots of places to study, read, or bring your children to play. There's community board games that you can play, chess in many different locations, computers, printers that are free for students and children of all ages, and many zine making events throughout the year. I love all the decorations and colorful set pieces throughput the building.

I can't believe I hadn't been here before... What a gorgeous library. Everything is so beautiful and they have so many seats/tables/rooms. It definitely felt like a great place to come read and study.

You can even borrow board games to play inside the library and 3D printers.

The rooftop garden had a beautiful view and a great area to lounge outside.

On the first floor there was also a little shop with many cheap used books and other reading items.

Truly one of the most gorgeous libraries I have ever had the chance of visiting! Each floor is dedicated to its different audiences. The kid's floor has a full chess set where people can stand and strategize in real time. Visitors can hop into the bottom coffee shop and gift store when they are open. Top floors show fiction and non-fictional genres with stairs leading up to the garden rooftop.

I would even recommend this to somebody who has no love for literature. The architecture is wide and expansive, and the building has a lot to be explored within. If you are local, they hold events or friends can catch up on the roof together.
