If I lived here this store would have been my whole personality as a teenager. So, so many books, creatively displayed alongside an impressive collection of interesting and thematically relevant Knick knacks. Plus: clean bathrooms, a cafe, and apparently frequent author events. This bookstore feels like the kind of mysterious store full of secrets that characters always visit in fantasy novels.

Book people is another Austin original store, although it never expanded to additional locations. It has been here forever, and even when there were Barnes & Noble and Borders all over, this was still the best in town. They have events for kids, book signings with prominent authors, including people like Dan Rather, and Bill Clinton. There’s a small coffee shop inside, and a huge kid section. Like all bookstores, of course they have gifts and cards. Their magazine section, which used to be huge and fantastic, *Now has only an empty shelf, which is very sad.

Double decker bookstore with clever displays and amazing staff. I went for a book tour event and was so impressed with the efficiency of the store’s hosting. Will absolutely be back to explore more thoroughly.

This is the best place ever, and such a hidden gem! I've lived in Austin my whole life as an avid reader and I only just discovered this place last year. It's become such a special, safe space for me and I hope everyone who lives in the area or who is visiting comes to check it out.

They have such a unique variety of books, clothes, trinkets and other Austin-themed memorabilia which is so fun to browse. You can tell that a lot of thought went into curating every part of their two story building! Don't forget the stop by the café either, for delicious raspberry lemonade and the best breakfast tacos around.

As long as I live in Austin, I will come to book people.

I’ve never been to an indie bookstore as enormous as this, and I wandered around with my mouth open the whole time. It’s really amazing. Huge selection, great “less hyped” featured books, helpful staff, and really fun staff picks with blurbs that really make you want to read their choices.

They offered 2 full floors of wonderful books here, loved shopping and browsing at all the books that I’m not aware of, and what I wanted to read next.

One of my favorite bookstores that I make sure to visit whenever I'm in Austin. It's a local shop with personality that still carries all the popular and big-name books. Inside, there's a charming coffee shop with plenty of seating. The store spans two floors and features a comprehensive Austin history section and an extensive children's area. Always leave with 3-4 books and a free local artist bookmark.
