What was once a really good small daily newspaper that won lots and lots of state awards for design and writing, has now been gutted and struggled to get out two issues each week. (And it's no longer the major tennant of the building pictured here. This is an example of why only the better newspapers will survive.

Wouldn't take much for me to cancel my subscription RIGHT NOW! I am a Christian and between your more and more liberal political views and the article I read in today's paper, it about put the final touches in my decision! You had an article "Lynchings a Shameful Chapter in Va Hiatory" Every day I pick up the paper, there are more and more confrontations between our black and white citizens....such as what I saw when I was in school in the 60s iAlabama, Mississippi and the deep south.. Why in the world would you choose to publish something like this...particularly the picture of the black men hanging in the tree on the back page? If I want to be reminded of this hate and atrocity in our history I would go to the library for a book that I was sure was true. I look at the newspaper for current news and happenings...how do you think it would make black citizens feel? I'm sure exactly as it would me feel.....-PURE HURT AND ANGER!l What would you suggest these parents and grandparents tell their children when asked about these hangings? I surely would not want my out-of-town grandchildren to see such filth! ....maybe you should sell the paper and go into something you'll do a better job with!!!

I found the subscription prices to be extremely high for what you receive. Not a lot of substance in this paper.
