I hate to write such a bad review because every worker I've encountered at a Village Baking Co. has been very friendly and helpful; I want to stress that this review is not a reflection on them.
When I first tried VBC's pastries at the Bishop Arts location, I found them to be bit stale and disappointing. I didn't want to judge them based on that experience alone because I went there later in the day and most of their reviews are so positive.
I decided to order their buche de Noel (yule log) for Christmas. When I went to pick it up on Christmas Eve at the bakehouse location on Woodall, I was a little surprised at how small it was for the price that I paid ($56 with tax). It measured approximately 9.25 inches. But hey...quality over quantity. If it's delicious, I don't mind paying that price.
When I took my first bite on Christmas Day, I suddenly became grateful that it was so small. Have you ever had something so sweet that it creates a numbing sensation on your tongue? Like your tongue's taste buds can't process that much sweetness at once so it temporarily freezes? I'm not exaggerating when I say this cake was inedibly sweet. I'm a person who likes dessert to be on the sweeter side, but this was too much even for me. I told my family I got the coffee flavor, and my mom asked me if they gave me the wrong one because she couldn't taste the coffee. Well, I couldn't either because all I could taste was sugar. The texture did nothing to mitigate the situation. The sponge cake was paradoxically both extremely dry AND too wet (you can see what I'm talking about in my picture). I suspect the baker brushed a little too much simple syrup on the cake to moisten it up.
My family and I could only eat a couple bites of our slices. I'm at a loss about what to do with the rest of the cake. I hate wasting food (and especially a cake that costs $56), but we honestly can't bring ourselves to eat another slice. Maybe this was a quality control issue and a one-off problem, but when you're charging that much for a cake, you can't make such a rookie baking mistake. Alternatively, if this is how they intended their cake to taste, then I find that even more disappointing.
I would have been better off buying the $9.99 Tom Thumb yule log. Even if it was equally as bad as this cake, at least the financial hit wouldn't be as painful.
I've had some bad yule logs, but nothing quite so inedible as this one.

We were in the neighborhood this morning and my husband remembered this bakery and he's been wanting to take me here for a while. I went in and ordered from their goods that were ready to buy. I ordered two chocolate croissants, an almond chocolate croissant, a fruit square pastry, and two bacon and cheese croissants. It is a little expensive but the pastries are huge and delicious. The service was good. The bakery is located in an industrial park and is like a store front for the production site, so everything is very fresh.

I Ordered the buche Noel for pickup because I’d be working and wouldn’t have time to make dessert for Christmas. On the email, it included a pickup start time of 10 am but not a time they wanted you to pick it up by. I got a call at 12:30 saying they were just waiting on me so they could go home. I understand it’s the holidays and people want to spend time with their families, but if you want customers to pick up their order by a certain time, include that in the email or create specific time slots next time.

This place is so delightful. I was searching for a place to buy authentic baguette in Dallas, and this place is it! I also bought a sourdough loaf that was awesome! I will definitely be back!
FYI: this location (on Woodall St) is in an industrial park area. So don’t think you are in the wrong place when you’re driving up. They have a counter for the public to come in and purchase anything you want. But just know this location is not like a cafe with seating to dine in.

I've never had anything like this before. Their croissant was amazing. Huge, crispy on the outside, light and airy and flavourful on the inside. I also purchased a jalapeno cheddar sourdough loaf. Equally delicious and unique.
I will go back. Looks like there are also other locations in town.
I did not see a table when I walked in so I don't believe this location offers dine-in.

The factory that makes all the pastries for the three locations in Dallas! We got to speak the head chef and can tell there's a lot of love put into these pastries!

This place is DIVINE !!! I stop by here for a real treat. Yes, it is pricey when you buy croissants and other pastry from other places for less. But the QUALITY and TASTE of their pastries more than make up for it. They are consistently good and their staff is friendly and helpful if you have questions.

I've been here multiple times and it's always fantastic. Be sure to go in the morning because they always sell out near closing time - their baked goods are that good.
They have a couple of pastries that are fantastic. I forget what they're called but talk to chefs behind the counter they are always really helpful.
I am actually writing this review more to recognize the extraordinary service that we experienced more than anything else. I walked in and asked for recommendations - to which they happily responded with a wealth of options. Given then variety, we naturally flip-flopped our order at least a half-a-dozen times. They were still very polite and accommodated our clearly annoying order with a smile.
Finally, when they returned change on our order, someone in my party decided on of the bills was ripped. Without hesitation one of the vendors whipped out his personal wallet and offered her change.
We were clearly not the best customers but each of the employees maintained their demeanor and treated us with professionalism and a smile.
Not only is does this bakery have fantastic products but they demonstrated a clear commitment to customer service as well. Thank you and be sure I'll be back many times.
